On this monthly program at Station Station Radio, Discoderiva – a Brazilian queer-led collective web radio – ventures into the hybrid zone between the club and sound art, expanding the idea of a radio set as a curatorial, textual, and affective form. We propose an ongoing experiment in annotated listening: episodes shaped by DJ and non-DJ sets that become spaces for spoken word, readings, and theoretical fragments. Songs and sounds aren’t simply played one after another, but are put in assemblages where our voices sometimes overlay the beat, where narration becomes interlude and where silence opens up space for thought.

By reading our own texts, curatorial notes, and fragments from queer and trans theory that reverberate with the atmospheres we build, we propose that these textual elements can anchor a sonic mood and trigger certain sounds and music as ground for critical fabulation. By referencing authors of queer theory, we invite these voices not to explain but to form a drift between theoretical resonance and references and intuitive sonic selections.

Each episode is an intuitive and instinctive path: sometimes anchored in a text, sometimes in a mood, a memory, or a gesture. We invite DJs, non-DJs, artists, scholars, people from our community, to share their selections. From there, we listen with and through them, tracing the discursivities that emerge and performing our role as curators, hosts, sonic excavators. Our show is both a search and an exposure of possible tools for making a queer future. The thoughts and ideas exposed through selections and commentary become expressions of longing – the force that moves us to imagine utopias and new landscapes of being. Following Muñoz, we hear queerness not just as a present-tense identity but as a horizon, a not-yet-here we are sonically reaching toward.
